It was sent early Tuesday before Trump left the White House for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsnationnow.com\/politics\/nato-trump-middle-east-tensions\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.newsnationnow.com\/politics\/nato-trump-middle-east-tensions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NATO summit<\/a> at The Hague, the official said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCongratulations and thank you for your decisive action in Iran, that was truly extraordinary, and something no one else dared to do,\u201d Rutte wrote. \u201cIt makes us all safer.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"nlp-ignore-block article-content rich-text\">\n<aside class=\"promo-link\">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsnationnow.com\/politics\/trump-israel-iran-dont-know-what-theyre-doing\/\" class=\"promo-link__link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\n\t\tTrump says Israel, Iran \u2018don\u2019t know what the f\u2014 they\u2019re doing\u2019\t<\/a><br \/>\n<\/aside>\n<\/div>\n<p>Trump departed for The Hague after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsnationnow.com\/politics\/trump-israel-iran-dont-know-what-theyre-doing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">colorfully criticizing both Israel and Iran <\/a>on Tuesday morning for what he said were violations <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsnationnow.com\/world\/trump-announces-us-attack-on-iran\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">of their ceasefire agreement<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Rutte added, \u201cDonald, you have really driven us to a really, really important moment for America and Europe, and the world. You will achieve something NO American president in decades could get done. Europe is going to pay in a BIG way as they should, and it will be your win.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In his message, Rutte wrote that Trump was \u201cflying into another big success in The Hague &#8230; It was not easy, but we\u2019ve got them all signed onto 5 percent.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>NATO leaders are expected to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsnationnow.com\/world\/international-headlines\/ap-nato-leaders-are-set-to-agree-on-a-historic-defense-spending-pledge-but-the-hike-wont-apply-to-all\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">endorse a goal of spending 5% of alliance members&#8217; gross domestic product<\/a> on security to fulfil plans for defending against outside attack.<\/p>\n<div class=\"nlp-ignore-block article-content rich-text\">\n<aside class=\"promo-link\">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsnationnow.com\/us-news\/immigration\/border-coverage\/how-heightened-terrorism-warning-affects-border-security\/\" class=\"promo-link__link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\n\t\tHow heightened terrorism warning affects border security\t<\/a><br \/>\n<\/aside>\n<\/div>\n<p>Spain said it has reached a deal with NATO to be excluded from the 5% target, while Trump said the figure shouldn\u2019t apply to the United States, only its allies. <\/p>\n<p>Other questions remain over what demands could be insisted on from other members of the alliance, like Belgium, Canada, France and Italy, that also would struggle to hike security spending by billions of dollars.
